Service Details

Richard “Dick” Lachenmaier, 71, passed away June 17, 2021 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center, surrounded by his wife and sons.

Dick was born on April 23, 1950 in Hardin, MT to Edna (Hessler) and Raymond Lachenmaier. He met and married Pat, his wife of almost 50 years in Billings, MT, and they were blessed with 2 sons. After a short time in Peoria, IL, Dick and Pat moved to and settled in Clive, IA over twenty years ago. Dick enjoyed his job at Fountain West Health Center until his retirement in 2018.

Dick was an avid New York Yankees fan, and loved watching them play both on tv and in person. He enjoyed playing fantasy baseball with his sons. Dick loved running and ran at least 3 miles every day for nearly 25 years, regardless of kidney stones, being hit by a car, having pneumonia or dropping a desk on his foot. Travelling to Mexico with Pat and their extended family was one of his greatest joys.

For the past 3 years, after being diagnosed with stage IV prostate cancer, Dick devoted time and energy to supporting Zero-The End of Prostate Cancer. He participated in fundraising walks and enjoyed visiting Washington, DC in 2020 to meet with other prostate cancer survivors, learn about new treatments, and to talk to senators and congress people about providing more money to support prostate cancer research.

Dick is survived by his wife, Pat Lachenmaier; his children, Kris (Becky), and Dustyn (Abigail Kapustiak); his grandsons, Holden and Gehrig; mother, Edna; siblings, Karen and Tim; brother-in-law and best friend, Terry Hert; as well as many extended family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his father Raymond and brother Daren.

A celebration of life will be planned for later this summer.

In lieu of flowers, Dick’s family requests that donations be made to Zero-The End of Prostate Cancer via https://zerocancer.org/get-support/find-regional-chapter/midwest/ and condolences can be expressed at www.HamiltonsFuneralHome.com.
