Jeffrey Kromrie
June 20, 2021
Jeffrey Alan Kromrie, 58, of Altoona, Iowa, passed away June 20, 2021, at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Hamilton’s Altoona Funeral Home, 105 4th Street SW, on June 26.
Jeff was born February 22, 1963, in Greenfield, Iowa, to Dean Douglas Kromrie and Frances Charlotte Wiese. He graduated from Ankeny High School in 1981. In 1982, he married his high school sweetheart, Gail Diane Sanders and they had two children together, Krystal and Kody.
In 1988, they moved to the small town of Bondurant, Iowa, living there for 30 years. In 1989, Jeff joined the Bondurant Fire Department as a firefighter and paramedic. He would later go on to serve as its Chief from November 1994 to December 2000. Jeff continued to serve until October 2006. He also served on the Bondurant City Council as part of the Planning and Zone committee, and he worked relentlessly selling emergency vehicles, wheelchair-accessible vehicles, and fire equipment throughout Iowa and the Midwest.
Jeff loved watching sports and was a fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes, USC Trojans, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Green Bay Packers, Boston Red Sox, watching or napping through Sunday Nascar, and any basketball team that played against LeBron James. He always made time out of his busy schedule and never missed his kids' and grandkids' sports games. He also loved his German Shepherds, Ozzy and Jax, grilling for family, and tinkering in his garage.
Jeff was a proud husband, father, grandfather, brother, friend, and a mentor to many. His selfless devotion and passion for his work touched countless lives and would refer to everyone as his friend. His legacy lives on through his family, friends, and the lives he helped save.
Jeff is survived by his loving wife, Gail; his children: Krystal (Felix) Van Der Brink, Kody (Paige) Kromrie; his grandchildren: Mason Van Der Brink, A.J. Van Der Brink, Ella Van Der Brink, Elizabeth Kromrie, and Henry Kromrie; mother: Frances Cooper; siblings: George (Tasha) Boser; Jerry Cooper and Bobbi Jo (Randy) Wynes; and a host of friends all of whom will miss him dearly. He was preceded in death by his father, Dean Douglas Kromrie.

Gail,
I just heard of Jeffs passing and am deeply saddened. I know too well the path you are on. When I lost my husband Brian four years ago, Jeff sent condolences to me and my family. I ran into him in Bondurant one day and he was so kind. I loved his sense of humor. My deepest sympathy to you and your family Gail. Jeff will be missed.

Gail, Krystal & Kody,
My deepest sympathy goes out to you. I'm so heart broken hearing the news. I was lucky getting to have Gail & Jeff as my neighbor for 13 years. And one of my favorite stories from Jeff was when Gail went out of town and left him with one personal check to use for groceries. Somehow he ended up with Ozzy instead. The look on his face and smile he had while telling me the story was a memory I will cherish even more than the day he told me about it.
Praying for you guys for the coming days ahead. 🙏

To Jeffs family, its only been 50 some years ago, but I knew Jeff when I was very young growing up in Southern CA. My mother Raney and Fran would get together often leaving Jeff and I to have some fun times together. I remember him fondly. Im so sorry for his passing and your loss.

So sorry to hear that you have lost Jeff. He did so many great things for the city of Bondurant over the years. He was always funny, always so supportive of all the girls Krystal was friends with in school. Hope you can take some comfort in knowing that he made an impact on many people's lives. God give you comfort in this time of sorrow.

Gail,
There are no words at this time to keep you from the pain of losing your best friend in life. Jeff's love and memories truly will last you your entire lifetime !!!!!
His smile, his laugh and his ornery teasing way of interacting with family and friends will never be forgotten !!!!!
I considered Jeff a good friend, medic and firefighter, I guess God needed him for something special !!!!!
