Services will be held Monday, June 28 at 11:00 a.m. at Rising Sun Church of Christ, 6390 NE Rising Sun Drive in Pleasant Hill, IA. Visitation will take place from 10:00 to 11:00. Chuck was born July 8, 1931 in Dunlap, IA to George and Corlys (Brace) Ulmer. He graduated from Pisgah High School in May, 1949. He later enlisted in the U.S. Navy Seabees from Sept. 1951 to April 1955. He was a veteran of the Korean War.
Chuck began 61 years of marriage with the love of his life, Mickey Alvis, on July 2, 1955. They started their family in 1956 with three children following, Patti Jo, Danny and Sandy. Chuck worked for the Rasmussen Group for nearly 40 years working his way to Superintendent. He supervised the building of bridges in various locations all over the Midwest before retiring in 1996.
Chuck loved the great outdoors- hunting, fishing and gardening- everything from tomatoes to roses. When not in the garden or fishing, he could be found in his woodworking shop or enjoying a great game of cribbage. He especially loved the trips to Canada with his brothers, son, grandson, great-grandson, sons-in-law, nephews and close family friends. This was an annual trip lasting more than 30 years. His last trip was in 2019 at age 88 and he was looking forward to going back this year!
He also continued his love of woodworking which started before high school right up to the days before he passed. A hobby that he enjoyed teaching his son, grandson, granddaughters and great-granddaughters, along with countless other family members and friends.
He enjoyed time spent with his church family in fellowship and food. He will be missed by his weekly prayer group and “Stump Alexa” gatherings.
Chuck is survived by daughters, Patti Scheel and Sandy (Jeff) Fisher; daughter-in-law, Linda Ulmer; grandchildren, Chris (April) Ulmer, Mandy (Tyler) Penning, Missy (Nick) Ulmer, Nikki (Joseph) Scheel, and Sydneylynn Fisher (fiance' Logan Price); six great- grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; sister, GeorgiaAnn Bissen; brother, Keith Ulmer; many nieces and nephews; and his faithful pets, Sophie and Whiskers.
He was preceeded in death by his parents, wife Mickey, son Danny Ulmer, son-in-law Jerry Scheel, sister Mary Philbin and brother Kenneth Ulmer.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Linda (Wicker) Rehms, Kimmy, Connie, Jim, Nita, Art, Richard, Joyce and countless others that took care of our dad and became his extended family.
