Michael Garth Rupe, Sr.

Michael Garth Rupe, Sr., passed away on June 5th, 2021. He was in hospice care at his daughter’s (Melissa Shinn’s) house in Des Moines, Iowa.

Mike was born on September 11, 1943 to Paul and Darlane (Dolly) Rupe. He had a brother, Richard (Rick) Rupe and a sister Verla (Rupe) Crothers. His Grandparents were Walter (Ted) and Florence Nine. In 1963, Mike married Patsy Gearhart in Sioux Falls, SD. His family includes: his step-mom Myrna, his children, Rodney (Rod), Melissa (Shinn), Zachary or Scott (wife Kari), Michael (Mike) Jr and Joshua (Josh) Rupe; 12 grandkids, 26 great grandkids and 3 great great grandkids.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents, brother and son (Rod).

He grew up in Sioux City, Iowa. He was a head cook at several locations where he was able to prepare his home-style meals. He loved spending time with his family – his favorite family get together was Thanksgiving. He enjoyed being outside, walking along the Des Moines river, fishing and going to the farmers market. He was very passionate about music – he loved to play his guitar(s) and write his own songs. He loved to talk to Josh about their Love of God. Whenever possible, he attended the Seventh Day Adventist Church.

He will be deeply missed by his family and friends. We will have a Celebration of Life at a later date.
