Juan Negrete Gomez

Juan Negrete Gomez was born in Zaragoza, Coahuila, Mexico on April 11, 1937 to Jesus and Francisca Gomez. He immigrated to Des Moines, Iowa where he worked at the railroad. He met his wife, Elena, and they were married on September 7, 1963. They raised nine children throughout their years together – Juan Gomez Jr. (Tracy), Lupe Gomez, Maria Valdez (Jose), Martin Gomez (Juanita), Jose Gomez (Lisa), Juana Gomez (deceased), Raul Gomez (Jennifer), Pedro Gomez (Elisha), and Barbara Gomez.

Juan retired from Norfolk Southern Railroad after 35 years. He enjoyed his family and friends. He enjoyed taking his wife to Mexican dances. According to him, he celebrated his birthday every Friday night. He enjoyed laughing and making memories with his kids, his 38 grandchildren, and his 55 great-grandchildren.

Juan passed away Saturday, May 29, 2021 at the age of 84. He was preceded in death by his parents Jesus and Francisca Gomez, his wife Elena, and daughter Juana. He was also preceded in death by his brother Manuel, sisters Hela and Delores, granddaughter Makenna and grandson Phillip.

Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., with a Rosary Service at 7:00 p.m., Monday, June 7, 2021 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 8, 2021 at St. Ambrose Cathedral, 607 High Street, Des Moines with burial to follow at Glendale Cemetery.
