Robert James Miller

Robert James Miller, 89, passed away Thursday, May 27, 2021.

Bob was born March 13, 1932 in Dallas, Iowa to Robert E. and Wilma (Hicks) Miller. He worked as a USPS Mail Handler for 25 years prior to his retirement. He was an active member of Wesley United Methodist Church. Bob met the love of his life, Mira Stilwell, while he was visiting his mother in the hospital where Mira worked. They celebrated 59 years together and raised two children – Teresa and Jim. He enjoyed reading the paper and drinking coffee. He loved watching old television shows, especially old westerns, Perry Mason, and history shows. He had a sharp memory and could recall stories and dates from years ago.

He is survived by his daughter, Teresa (Raymond) Parsons; son, Jim (Sherry) Miller; grandchildren, Amy Miller, Daniel (Barbara) Parsons, Andy Parsons, Annabelle Miller, Mason Miller, and Ryan (Chantelle) Stotts; and great-grandchildren, Jaden Parsons, Axel Parsons, and Waylon Stotts.

Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Mira (Stilwell) Miller; parents, Robert and Wilma Miller; and siblings, Francis Miller and Dorothy Manley.

Services will be held on Wednesday, June 2, 2021 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m., followed by funeral service at 1:00 p.m. Burial will take place at Glendale Cemetery after the service. Please rejoin the family at the funeral home for a time of food and fellowship after the graveside service.
