Service Details

Gregory Allen Olson Jr., 45, departed this world on Friday, May 21, 2021 at his home. He was born January 19, 1976 in Des Moines, the son of Greg Olson, Sr. and Linda Olson.

Greg had a very kind soul from the time he was little until he left. He enjoyed many things including gardening and preparing fantastic food for those he loved. Greg hunted and trapped with his dad and Uncle Mike when he could and did dry walling off and on. He finally decided that retail was his passion. He loved being around people in the stores. One of his favorite things was people watching and his coworkers loved his sense of humor - sometimes it was brutal but always for a laugh.

Greg always told it the way he saw it. One of his favorite things to say was, “If the truth hurts, something’s wrong.” He always wanted a family and was thrilled when he had his daughter, Alexandria. He always hoped for more children but that wasn’t in the plan. So Greg loved her to the moon and back. Greg always tried to make people laugh, even at his own expense. If he made you laugh, that made him happy.

He worked hard and lived the best he could. Life was hard at times but he always got back up and kept going the only way he knew how. He enjoyed listening to his Janet Jackson, Madonna, and any of his old school music. Greg loved watching the reality show “Real Housewives”… of wherever and watched them all. The biggest show that he watched was The Golden Girls. That was his show.

He is survived by his mother, Linda Olson; father, Gregory Olson Sr. (wife, Joan); daughter, Alexandria Olson (Anthony Allen); brother, Mathew Olson (Jenny); nephew, Austin Olson; nieces, Lillee and Maddie Olson; his grandmothers, Wanda Olson and Donna Nall; and a host of other family and many beloved friends.

Greg was preceded in death by his sister, Jessica; and his grandfathers, Robert Olson and Jimmy Nall.

Family will greet friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 27, 2021 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street. A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Friday, May 28, 2021 at the funeral home with interment to follow at Oakwood Cemetery.
