Mark Alan Boggio, 70, passed away peacefully at his home on May 24, 2021. Visitation will be held Friday May 28, 2021 at the Lutheran Church of Hope, 520 NW 36th St, Ankeny, Ia beginning at 10:00 AM with the service to follow at 11:00AM. Internment will be held at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery at a date yet to be determined.

Mark was born February 12, 1951 in Des Moines, Iowa to John H. & Dororthy F. Boggio. He was a graduate of Roosevelt High School (’69) and a lifelong resident of Iowa residing the last 25 years in Johnston.

During his time at Roosevelt he met the love of his life, Paula Faler. He was drafted into the Army directly out of High School. He served 2 years, one of which was in Viet Nam. During his tour of duty, Mark was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received in combat and the Army Commendations Medal for Heroism. Mark and Paula were married May 29, 1971 upon his return from the War and they lovingly welcomed their two daughters, Jennifer and Mindy.

Mark went to work for his Uncle, Bert Schaller, at Schaller’s Standard Service and worked there until 2003 when he went to work for Gilchrist Jewett Lumber retiring in 2020.

Mark will always be remembered for his love of family, his kindness to everyone and the friendship and enjoyment he received from his involvement in various sports, both as a participant and as an Umpire or Referee. He found pleasure mentoring the young players and hoping to teach them good sportsmanship. He never criticized them. He just hoped to teach them good sportsmanship and skills. He enjoyed golfing trips with friends and the early Sunday morning outings with his golf buddies. Most of all, he treasured the time spent with his family.

Up until the very end, Mark was always appreciative of the care he was given by his Doctors, Nurses and Caregivers. He thanked them often for their help and kindnesses. He was loved dearly and will be missed by not only all of his family, but all those who cared for him at John Stoddard Cancer Center. His family would like to thank Dr. Dan Buroker, and all the Oncology nurses on the 5th floor at Stoddard ……they were all unbelievable and treated Mark like he was family. Mark’s family also sends an extra special thank you to Nurse Practioner Patty Schwickerath who kept Mark in line when he wouldn’t listen to his wife or daughters.

Mark is survived by his wife of 50 years & best friend Paula, his two daughters Jennifer (Greg) Kise and Mindy (Isaac) Ziebell, his four grandchildren Aidan & Harrison Kise & Owen and Emma Ziebell all of whom he adored. Also surviving are his sister Fran (Tony) Carenza, several nieces and nephews and many cousins.

The family would like to extend a world of thanks to the Unity Point Hospice team who cared so tenderly for Mark durning his final days. Holly, Madonna, Kim, Bridget and their team are truly “Angels on Earth.”
