Paul J. McClain, Sr.

Paul Jay McClain, Sr., 81, passed away Saturday, May 15, 2021.

Paul was born September 7, 1939 in Des Moines, Iowa to James and Elizabeth (Logan) McClain. He graduated from North High School in 1957. He proudly served in the U. S. Marine Corps. He continued to serve in the reserves after his honorable discharge from the Marines. Paul worked as a probation officer for juvenile detention in Polk County for many years, and he was passionate about his job. He was a huge Iowa Hawkeyes fan and enjoyed watching TV. Family was his first priority and he was a great husband, father, and grandfather.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Eva; children, Paul “Butch” McClain, Jr., Cindy (Ervin) Shelly, Dominic James McClain; grandchildren, Julie (Kevin), Michael (Nicole); great-grandchildren, Julia, Connor, Jaxon, Briselle, Amar; siblings, Sally Battin, Bill McClain; and many other extended family and friends.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents, James and Elizabeth McClain; and his grandson, Paul Curtis McClain.

Private family burial will take place at McClain Cemetery in Johnston, Iowa. There will be no services held, so take a moment to remember Paul during the next Iowa Hawkeyes game.
