Dorothy Spowart

Dorothy “Dot” Schleiffarth Spowart, age 88, passed away on Friday, May 14, 2021. Dot was born the daughter of Arthur & Emma Schleiffarth on June 15, 1932 in Earlham, IA.

Following high school graduation in 1952 from Earlham High School, Dot attended AIB College in Des Moines where she received her associate degree. She worked in the banking industry for many years until retirement.

Dot was a member of Humboldt Congregational United Church of Christ and P.E.O. She was also a member of Eastern Star Chapter 147 and Chapter 195 where she and her husband, Bill, served as worthy matron and worthy patron in 1998.

Dot enjoyed playing bridge, sewing, traveling, and square dancing. She also loved volunteering for Meals on Wheels, cooking, entertaining, and hosting supper club. Above all else, she treasured time spent with her family and loved ones.

Dorothy is survived by her son, David (Julie) Spowart of Knoxville, IA, daughter, Teresa (Larry) Allen of McKinney, TX, grandchildren, Kyle (Patty) Spowart of Tripoli, IA, Paige Spowart of Canyon, TX, Samantha and Rebecca Allen of McKinney, TX, and great-grandchildren, Emma and Russell Spowart.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, William R. Spowart, brother Eugene Schleiffarth, sister, Patricia (Howard) Hoy, and nephew, Tom Hoy.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 19, 2021, at Resthaven Cemetery in West Des Moines, IA.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Humboldt Congregational United Church of Christ in memory of Dorothy.
