Service Details

Leland Thomas "Tom" Dingman, 79, died on September 30, 2009 at Ramsey Village. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Monday, October 5, 2009 at Hamilton's Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street, with burial at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held 2-4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Tom was born September 21, 1930 to Leland and Dorothy Dingman in Des Moines. He graduated from Des Moines Tech High School and served in the US Marine Corp from 1948 to 1953 during the Korean War. Tom retired as a railroad switchman for Missouri Pacific Railroad and Rock Island Railroad. He was a member of Park Avenue Presbyterian Church, East Gate Masonic Lodge #630, Order of the Eastern Star, and United Transportation Union. Tom enjoyed fishing and golfing.
Tom is survived by his wife of 55 years, Nancy (Gibson) Dingman of Des Moines; children, Leland "Ted" of Des Moines, Kevin (Sherry) of Stanwood, WA, Brian (Rhonda) of Cornado, CA, and Kellie (W. Scott) Phelps of Des Moines; grandchildren, Brad, Eric, Mitchell, Jacob, Kelsey, all Dingman, and Connor Phelps; great-grandchildren, Brandon, Cameron, Alanna, and Mitch Jr.; sisters, Barbara Bell of Rogers, AR and Gail Highland of Des Moines; and a host of other family and beloved friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Loren; and sister, Carol.
