Joan Molyneux

Joan Molyneux, 88, passed away May 5, 2021 of natural causes at Bishop Drumm Retirement Community, where she was living.

Johanna Catherine Janssen was born in Eddyville, Iowa on October 16, 1932 to Bernardus (Ben) and Veronica (Gasper) Janssen. She was a graduate of Eddyville High School. She moved to Des Moines where she met Robert Schuster. They were married August 28, 1955 where they raised their seven children: Joseph, Ann, Patricia, Jean, John, Carol and Peter.

Joan’s greatest gift to her family was her unconditional love and support. She was preceded in death by her beloved husbands, Robert, on September 6, 1982, after 27 years of marriage, Richard, on February 9, 1998 after 12 years of marriage and her daughter Jean on July 21, 2003. Those left to cherish her memory include her sister Dorothea (Marvin) Hicks of Guernsey, IA, brother Bernard (Ginny) Janssen; her six children, Joseph (Kathy) Schuster of Adel, IA, Ann Hammen of Ankeny, IA, Patricia Nolte of Des Moines, IA, John (Karen) Schuster of Ankeny, IA, Carol (Lance) Redmon of Des Moines, IA and Peter Schuster (Libby Hennings) of West Des Moines, IA; Twenty-five grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren and numerous nieces/nephews. She was also preceded in death by her sister Mary Lou Webb.

With so many children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Joan still managed to make each one feel uniquely special, loved and cared for. Her laugh is a sound that will be cherished always. Being kind and mindful of others, Joan lived her life with a wonderful effortless grace, and will be missed and remembered fondly by all who had the good fortune to know her.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Monday, May 10, 2021, at Saylorville Church, 6429 NW 6th Drive, Des Moines. Family will greet friends at the church two hours prior to service time. Following services, burial will take place at Glendale Cemetery.
