William Pinegar, age 79, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Wednesday, May 5, 2021.

Bill was born May 28, 1941 in Des Moines, Iowa to William and Alyce (Good) Pinegar. He served in the U. S. Navy, and retired from Cargill after almost 40 years in the maintenance department. Bill was a Union Steward with Teamsters #90. He was a lifelong Catholic and belonged to Visitation Catholic Church. Bill loved western movies and fishing. He loved to bowl and participated in leagues for many years, and was a stock car racer at the Iowa State Fairgrounds in his younger years.

Bill was united in marriage to Mary Jane (Hartnell) Pinegar. She had three girls, Sheryl, Charlie, and Tammy. Bill had a daughter, Kim, from his first marriage. During their union Bill and Mary had another daughter Maggie a few years later, then when they found out they were pregnant again, having given up hope for a boy, they named their last daughter Billie. Little did they know, nine years later, they would be blessed with Michael, the son they always wanted.

He is survived by his seven children, Kim Kopp (Steve), Sheryl Thompson (Sheldon), Charlotte (Charlie) Iseminger (Bill), Tammy Harrington (Lynda Leonhard), Mary (Maggie) Wilkins (Jason), Billie Pinegar (Robert King), Michael Pinegar (Whitney), 23 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings, Carol Mace (Larry) and Joseph Pinegar (Kathy), numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, William and Alyce Pinegar; his first wife, Carol; second wife, Mary; his siblings, Della Edwards, George Pinegar, Dennis Pinegar, and Deborah Wallace; and his granddaughter, Amber Jane Heimbaugh.

Visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00pm Sunday, May 16, 2021 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Funeral service will be held at 12:00PM Monday, May 17, 2021, also at Hamilton’s. Burial with military honors will take place at Iowa Veterans Cemetery at 2:00pm Monday.
