Max was born on March 23, 1940, to Otis and Wanda Wright in Melcher, Iowa. He was an only child. After graduating from Melcher High School, he went to Northwest Missouri State and Drake University. After college, he started his career in banking with Bankers Trust in Des Moines. He went on to work at Ankeny State Bank, Altoona State Bank, and Bank Altoona. He served the Altoona community for many years through Altoona Little League Baseball and the Altoona Chamber of Commerce. After his banking career, he became President of Olde Towne Mortgage Services. He also served as chairman of the Polk County Assessor Committee and was a board member for 16 years until 2020 when he officially retired. He enjoyed watching the Iowa Hawkeyes football and basketball teams, fishing, and supporting his grandchildren in their activities.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Marilyn Wright. One of his favorite sayings was, “Happy wife, happy life,” and this served him well. Max and Marilyn took many river cruises and traveled to lots of exciting places. His favorite trip was wherever they had just returned from. He enjoyed being a “snowbird” and spending winters in Arizona. He is also survived by his son, Jason (Kelly) Wright; daughter, Julie (Mike) Rivera; and four grandchildren: Connor Wright, Kaitlin Wright, Brian Rivera and Brady Rivera. Max was preceded in death by his parents.
