Anthony Jerome Freeman, 54, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Saturday, April 24, 2021.
Tony was born August 2, 1966 in Charleston, South Carolina to John and Edith (Scott) Freeman III. He graduated from North High School in Des Moines, where he ran track and earned a scholarship to run for Graceland College. He was proud to be a drummer for the Isiserettes Drill and Drum Corps.
He is survived by his wife, Tonya Freeman; children, Anthony Cross (Destanie Olmstead), Shane (Kyra) Cross, Blake Cross (Moneisha Weber), Alexis Cross, and Montray Little; favorite nephew, DeMarco Taylor Freeman; grandchildren, Little Anthony, Zaylen, Teigan, Damyra, Ameliana, King, Azekiel, Peyton, Jailyn, Shane Jr., Blake Jr., Jordan Jr., Jaida, Shane Jr., Liam, Ay’Den, Kay’Den, and Evan; four brothers, one sisters, and a host of other loving relatives and many special friends.
Tony was preceded in death by nephew, Damien Quinn Taylor Freeman.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, May 9, 2021 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Funeral service will take place at 12 p.m. Monday, May 10, 2021 at Amazing Grace Ministry, 1903 53rd Street, Des Moines, IA 50310, with burial to follow at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be directed to On With Life, 715 SW Ankeny Rd, Ankeny, IA 50023 in loving memory of Tony.
The family would like to extend a very special heartfelt thank you to Tony’s medical team of Dr. Ben Collins, Dr. Melissa Bruhl and Josh Durba (nurse), as well as Kyra Cross, Ronelle Ewing, James Jackson, Kaytrina Balliet, Sharon Parata, and all of his children for their love, tender care and compassion shown to Tony throughout the many years of his illness.

My prayers go out to Tony's family. I met Tony through my daughter Kyra he is a great person he would always make me laugh at his jokes that he tell all us. A very special guy he was and still is. R.I.P. Tony you will be missed.

To the Freeman Family from my family. We are sorry for the beautiful soul you all have lost, but remember this your father will forever live thru all 5 of you. His spirit is free and able to visit you no matter where or when you call out for him. We all know Tony loved ya'll to death, ya'll just make sure ya'll there for each other and keep letting Tony live thru ya'll. Ya'll are still and forever will be loved by him.

To my kids I'm so sorry dad is gone he would want you to be happy..an celebrate life his life an be good to each other look out for each other be happy...he loved each an everyone of yall an was proud to be your dad an would say them are my kids he was a stand up guy an no matter wat kind of troubles you got into he loved yall unconditionally.
