Alan C. Shogren
April 25, 2021
Alan Craig Shogren, 71, passed away Sunday, April 25, 2021.
Alan was born June 19, 1949 in Des Moines, Iowa to Eugene and Betty (Pierce) Shogren. He was a faithful employee of EMCO/Formed Steel for over 25 years. Alan loved people and never met a stranger. He enjoyed mowing his yard and riding his mower around to visit with and help out his neighbors. Alan especially enjoyed parking cars during the Iowa State Fair so that he could talk to all the new people. He loved his dogs and was an avid Cubs fan. Above all, Alan’s greatest joy in life was being a grandpa. He was so proud of all his grandkids.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Sandy; sons, Shawn Hatfield (Gina Martin) and Craig (Denise) Shogren; grandchildren, Shawn Nelson, Robert Heathcote, Christopher Resendiz, Austin Hatfield, Alicia Resendiz, Holly Shogren, Ella Shogren, and Clara Shogren. He is also survived by his brothers, Douglas Shogren, Stanley Williamson, and Martin Willamson; their niece who was raised as a daughter, Samatha Resendiz; and many other nieces and nephews.
Alan was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Doris Shogren and Merrit and Betty Walton; and his brothes, Loren Shogren and Dale Shogren.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, May 6, 2021 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. There will be a Time of Sharing at 1:00 p.m. Friday, May 7, 2021, also at Hamilton’s. Family will begin greeting guests one hour prior, beginning at 12:00 p.m. Burial will take place at Laurel Hill Cemetery after services.

Grandpa Alan, what can i say... You were pretty much the main grandfather i had growing up. Though we hardly talked, i still have lots of good memories that i will hold dear to my heart. I may not be there when they lay you in your final resting place, but i will be up there to visit you when i can. I will miss the talks we did share with one another. I will miss hearing your voice asking me a trillion questions. I will see you again one day grandpa. I have and always will love you. To our family up there, i love and miss you all, and it is with great sadness that i cannot be there in person. I love you all, please never forget that.
