Sue Mortensen, age 79, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 21, 2021, surrounded by her loving family at Taylor House Hospice. Sue was born the daughter of LeRoy and Irene (Griffis) Overton on November 4, 1941, in Des Moines, Iowa.
Sue enjoyed spending time outdoors, fishing, camping, and took great pride in having a nice yard with beautiful flowers growing. She was a big animal lover, especially kitties they always held a special spot in her heart. Sue was strong-willed and known for not taking any crap from anyone. She will be remembered most as a beautiful woman with a big heart and took care of her family with love and compassion.
Those left to cherish her memory include her loving husband of 44 years, Robert; children, Randyj (Dena) Wright, Pamela Walker, and David (Julie) Wright; step-children, Steven (Angie) Mortensen, Cindy (Jim) Gates, and Ben (Alisa) Mortensen; grandchildren, Sadie, Hanna, Cody, Lacey, and Emily; step-grandchildren, Jacob, Jordan, and Joshua; 13 great grandchildren; siblings, Sandy (Jerry) Jacobs and Vickie (Ken) Mauk; her Yorkie, ‘lil girl; and many nieces, nephews, and other loving family members.
Sue was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Delores Hildreth, Dorothy Anderson, and Lonny Overton.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 28, 2021, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines.

It has taken me days to write this. And thats ok because every time I would get ready to memories would just enter my head one right after another. I have so many of them, we had so MANY great times so many laugh's and ever so often some tears, but we were alway's there for each other.You knew I loved you forever and a day and I know you loved me..I looked forward to making more memories but GOD had other plan's. I will miss you terribly, til we meet again punkin.LATER..

Sue was a Golden Girl in so, many ways. She had a heart of gold and a personality to match. She was always on my side and had my back. I will miss my sister today and everyday. My prayers for Bob and all of the family.

Randy, David, Pam, Uncle Bob and Family; I love you all very much and am here for any of you if you need absolutely anything. Aunt Sue was an amazing lady and she will be dearly missed. Sending many prayers for all of you.
