Lester Jones

Lester Duane Jones age 80, died peacefully on April 21st, 2021 at his residence in Waukee, IA after a courageous battle with Tardive Dyskinesia (TD) and its many effects on his body.

He was born on August 26, 1940, in Winterset, Iowa, to George (Ronald) and Gladys Jones. Raised on a farm in Madison county along with his two brothers John and George, Lester graduated from Truro High School and went on to study and work in the HVAC and building maintenance field until he retired in his 70’s after beginning his battle with TD. He was happily married to Kathy Routson-Jones who was his partner in life for 18 years at the time of his passing.

Lester is survived by his loving wife, Kathy Routson-Jones, children - Ronda Ives of Spokane, WA., Gayla Jones of Waukee, IA., Curt (Amy) Jones of Baxter, IA., and Michelle (Stephanie) Jones of Des Moines, IA., 14 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, and Brothers - John Jones of Apache, OK., and George A. (Beverly) Jones of Sumner, IA.

Lester was preceded in death by his parents and his oldest son Christopher Jones.

Besides spending time with family and friends, Lester enjoyed doing odd jobs for whoever was in need, watching auto racing of all sorts, and collecting American Eagle artwork. His passion for service to others touched the lives of many and leaves many cherished memories in their hearts.

Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation that will be held from 12-2 p.m., with memorial service to follow at 2 p.m., on Friday, May 7, 2021, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue in Des Moines.

In Lieu of flowers and in loving memory of Lester, the family requests that memorial donations may be designated to NORD (National Organization for Rare Disorders) for patient support and medical research.
