*This is part of my life for my obituary – thought it would help – Love Mom.

Mary Virginia Dick was born in Paris, MO September 25, 1924. Her parents were Roy and Agnes Allison. Her father died when she was 8 years old. Her mother later married Walter Bingham who became her step-father. They moved to IA when Mary was 13 years old. She also has a brother three years younger than her, Paul Allison.

She attended school in MO and IA. Later at age 20, she moved to Joplin, MO and worked at Joplin General Hospital as a nurse’s aide. In 1945, she met Robert Dick and they were married in Neosho, MO on June 28, 1946. Mary and Robert later moved to IA when their adult child, Linda Shanks, was 9 months old. They farmed for awhile then moved to the town of Pleasantville. Robert began work for Firestone Tire and Rubber Co. By then, they had two more children Marilyn Shanks and Jimmy Dick.

Robert and Mary were married for 50 years on June 28, 1996. Robert passed away in March 1997.

They were both members of the Professional Musicians Club of IA and both were in the Hall of Fame for doing the concession stand for years.

Mary, Robert and family moved to Altoona in 1959. Robert worked at Firestone and Mary was a housewife. She put out large gardens in the country and canned huge amounts to do her part so she could stay home with the children. Linda Sue, Marilyn Jean and James Charles Dick. She enjoyed her family, garden and yard work, and working for the P.M.E.C.I. Club. She also enjoyed bowling and needlepoint.

*You kids will have to finish the rest of this after I’m gone. Love Mom.

Our mom is no longer in pain and suffering. We will miss her greatly. She had a gift of talking for hours and always filling the room with laughter. We will forever miss her stories. She was everything a mom should be, and more. Our memories will be cherished forever, and she will eternally be missed.
