David L. Howard

David Leon Howard, age 65, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, April 15, 2021. He gave the gift of life to others by being an organ donor.
David was born March 6, 1956 in Des Moines, Iowa to Ernest “Lonnie” and Imogene (Walters) Howard. He graduated from Southeast Polk High School in 1974. He married Joy Leanne (Brouwer) in July of 1988 in Colfax, Iowa at the Assembly of God Church. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force. David was an iron worker for 20 years, and a member of UIW Local #67. He also worked for the Des Moines Register for 17 years. He had many talents and hobbies. He loved his family and enjoyed working with his son. He loved blacksmithing, splitting fire wood, and remodeling his camper. He was a member of High Riders 4X4 Club.
He is survived by his wife, Joy; children, Benjamin (Kristen) Howard, Joshua (Jamie) Howard, Bethany (Jacob) Randles, and Jami (Daniel) Howard; grandchildren, Caitlynn, Breanna, Liam, Kyly, Ryder, Hope, and Hana; his mother-in-law, Janice Brouwer; sisters, Jackie and Donna; and many extended family and friends.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Lonnie and Imogene Howard; father-in-law, John Brouwer; nephew, Jesse Johnston; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
There will be a celebration of life at the family’s home at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed to the family in loving memory of David.

Joy and Jackie, I have been trying to find you and Dave for sometime now. It broke my heart when my brother Greg found the obituary a couple weeks ago.
Greg and I talked about the great times that we had with Dave and Jackie. I would love to hear from you Joy Iand Jackie F you get this email.

Dave it's been a long time since we've seen each other. Will never forget the fun times in High Rollers in our jeeps tearing it up. To Ben and all your family our deepest sympathy. You have a family to be proud of for sure. Rest in peace buddy.
