Charles "Charlie" McFarland

Charles Cecil McFarland, 46, was born September 26, 1974 in Iowa City, Iowa to Charles Clayton McFarland and Patricia (Montgomery) McFarland.
He passed away Sunday, April 11, 2021 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.
Charlie loved his family and enjoyed spending time with his nieces and nephew. He was a sports fan, and especially liked cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes and watching NASCAR. He was an avid supporter of the Detroit Lions, Pistons, and Redwings, because Charlie always cheered for the underdog. While attending high school, his activities included drama and the Academic Bowl. His hobbies included fishing, reading, and listening to music.
He is survived by his mother, Pat McFarland; sisters, Misty (Bob) Bettey and Sally (Terry) Magner; nephew, Kyle Bettey; nieces, Kelli and Emily Bettey, and Jen and Caitlyn Magner; beloved dog, Mickey Mouse; his Imagine Group; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
Charlie was preceded in death by his father, Chuck McFarland and his grandparents.
There will be no formal services held at this time.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Animal Rescue League.

In addition to Spanish IV, Charlie and I were in Academic Bowl together. I remember is quiet wit and intelligence. My deepest condolences on your loss.
