Carla Kay Johnson, age 84, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, April 9, 2021 at Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines.
Carla was born July 8, 1936 in Des Moines, Iowa to Carlos and Lorene Tuinstra. Carla was the eldest of four. She grew up in the community of Rising Sun and learned her love of God at Rising Sun Church of Christ. She was a graduate of Altoona High School.

She loved reading scripture the most and read her Bible cover to cover countless times, studying the Word every evening. She enjoyed sharing her knowledge of the Bible and her love of the Lord with others. She was a faithful servant of God. She was a Brownie leader, enjoyed gardening, and was an avid reader.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Phil; children, Roxanne (Dan) Porter, Todd (Sally) Johnson, Beth (Stan) Willer; siblings, David (Jerri) Tuinstra, Darlene (Don) Townsend; sister-in-law, Hiltrud Tuinstra; 12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews

Beth and Todd - I am so very sorry for your loss of such a special woman. I remember spending a holiday with you at Beth and Stan's, and the love you all had for each other was so evident. Your Mom just had this peace and joy about her, no doubt from her faith and love of her family. May memories bring you comfort and may her memory be a blessing.
