George Fisher

George Fisher, 85, passed away at Mercy Medical Center on April 5, 2021. He was born in West Des Moines, Iowa, on April 25, 1935, to Thomas and Rose Fisher.
George retired from Monarch Cement Company after 37 years of service. He quickly learned that retirement was not for him and went to work for the Iowa DOT.
George was a strong man and devoted husband who loved his family beyond measure. He and his wife had a home at Lake Panorama where they lived for 26 years and also where they helped to raise their granddaughter, CrystalRose. George loved grilling, watching boxing, gambling with friends (Bev), and he was an avid fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes and Chicago Bears.
George is survived by his children, Cindy (Bill) Stringer, Matt (Kim) Fisher, and Shelley (Charles Walker) Fisher; grandchildren: Matthew II, Brandon, Jason, CrystalRose (Joseph), Tyler, and Taylor; step-grandchildren, Danielle and Matthew; his great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Lucas; brother, David Fisher; Dalton and many nieces and nephews; as well as other loving family and friends.
He was preceded in death by wife, Cynthia; his parents, Thomas and Rose; 5 sisters and 1 brother.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 13, 2021, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue in Des Moines with burial to follow at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be held Monday evening from 5-8 p.m., also at the funeral home. The family requests masks be worn and social distancing is encouraged.
Following burial there will be a luncheon held at Vittoria Lodge, 7200 NW 2nd Avenue, Ankeny, IA 50023.
Memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society in loving memory of George.

Sorry to see the passing of George. Had a lot of fun working with him at the plant, as well as Matt and Bill. Great family, used his and Daves fuel oil hog roaster a few times. Wonderful man!

George was a peach of a man. I worked with him for 37 years at Monarch Cement. He was a good friend for many years. I also worked with Matt for many years.

Im so sorry I never came to see you when Ive should have. You were as strong as a bull, I remember you helping me pull ME and a tree up embankment on 42nd street. A damn good guy, polite and took care of everyone.
