April 04, 2021
Carol Jean Padgett, 74, died Sunday, April 4, 2021 at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines. She was born January 13, 1947 to Clyde and Pearl Dykhuis in Douglas, Michigan.
Carol graduated from Emmetsburg High School in 1965 and attended University of Northern Iowa for several years. She moved to Des Moines where she met her husband, James. They married in 1970 and had two children, James and Lori. Carol adored her two grandchildren, Owen and Olivia; and enjoyed more than anything the time she spent with them.
Carol worked for the Iowa DOT for nearly 30 years before retiring in 2002. She enjoyed gardening and traveling to see her family in Michigan during peach season. She would bring bushels of peaches back to Iowa each year to enjoy through the year. Carol’s greatest joy was being able to spend time family and friends.
Carol is survived by her children, James Padgett and Lori (Brian) Parsons; grandchildren, Owen and Olivia Parsons; brothers, Roger (Georgia) Dykhuis of Des Moines, Robert (Becky) Dykhuis of Emmetsburg, and Richard Dykhuis of Emmetsburg; and a host of other family and beloved friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James; and sister-in-law, Nancy.

Worked with Carol for many years! When Jim passed away I went with her to the cemetery one night after work to water flowers, we had to hook up many hoses (after we found them) and pull them as far as we could! Had a great laugh while doing this! May she rest in peace!

I've known Carol for a good many years, worked with her at Westinghouse, was in her wedding and in a group called Stars, We shared a lot of laughs and a few tears along the way. May she find her way to God's Golden Gates.

Enjoyed working with Carol. Our lunch time walks around Park Fair. Our Driver License conference trips. We laugh how I saved her in Washington, D.C. when we were walking on the 'Mall' and she spaced out and started to cross into the street, a car was coming and I had to grab her from getting squashed. We then walked back to the hotel in the middle of a large celebration going on for the World Cup soccer championship.
