Joseph D. Medina

Joseph D. Medina, 92, passed away Thursday, April 1, 2021.

Joseph was born June 7, 1928 in Ames, Iowa to Augustine and Amelia Medina. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed fishing in his younger years. He worked as a meat cutter for Swift and also for the Urbandale School System until his retirement in 1990. He married Rose Mary Maldonado Medina on January 7, 1946 and they enjoyed 75 beautiful years together.

He is survived by his wife, Rose Mary; children, Joe Medina, Jr. (Sandy), Nick Medina, Maria Toney (Gary), and Debra Mann (Mike); fifteen grandchildren; and numerous great and great great grandchildren as well as other extended family and friends.

Joseph was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and one sister.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, April 8, 2021 at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street, Des Moines. Funeral service will begin at 12 p.m. Friday, April 9, 2021, also at the funeral home, and will be concluded with burial at Glendale Cemetery in Des Moines.
