Dianna Ohland, 70, left this life with grace and dignity in her home on Saturday, September 26th, 2009 following a courageous battle with breast cancer.
Dianna was born in Des Moines, Iowa on December 19, 1938 and she was a homemaker most of her life, although she did work for Meredith Printing Corp. and Wells Fargo. Since retiring, Dianna enjoyed spending time with her family, which included her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
A private memorial service will be held at Hamilton's Funeral Home in Altoona.
Those left to cherish Dianna's memory include her husband, Lloyd of Des Moines; children, Sherry (Gary) Beattie of Runnells, Carrie (Steve) Gulling of Altoona, Mary Ohland of Des Moines and Larry (Laurie) Ohland of Bondurant; grandchildren, Mandy (Aaron) Johnson, Sandy (Josh) Vander Weerdt, Lindsay Gulling, Mitchell Ryan Ohland, Kelly Beattie, Maggie Gulling, Kory Beattie and Kelsey Gulling; great-grandchildren, Kooper Beattie, Camryn Ohland, Karson Vander Weerdt, Gage Ohland and Hallie Vander Weerdt; sisters, Deanna Cross of Kimball, SD and Cleo (Charlie) Brennan of Elizabeth City, SC; sister-in-law, Nell Carpenter and many cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Susan G. Komen's Race for the Cure.

Dear Lloyd,Sherry,Carrie,Larry,MaryPat and families,
We are thinking of you at this time and keeping you in our thoughts and prayers.
I will always remember how welcomed your Mom/wife made me feel. So very, comfortable is the first word that comes to my mind, when we played basketball on the driveway, sit around at the kitchen table, spend nights in the basement at slumber parties or just simply hanging out. She was always kind and supportive.
I know you will miss her very much! We hope the memories you all shared over the years will make it somewhat easier.

I'm so very grateful that I had the opportunity to meet Dianna. She always was so kind and loving to those around her. I loved her wit and her great stories about the kids and the grandkids. She was a wonderful partner for Lloyd my great riding buddy. Someone to balance him out. Chase and I love you Lloyd. Please know that you and your family are in our thoughts.

We are saddened by Dis passing. She welcomed so many of us into her home when we were teenagers. After hearing the story of Carrie and Di opening Christmas presents early then wrapping them back up together for Christmas Day I decided thats the kind of mom I wanted to be. One who could recognize and embrace special moments, even if the moment wasnt in my plan of how things should go. Dis goodness will live forever.

Lloyd & family:
I was so sorry to see Di's obituary in today's paper. She will be missed by many for sure. I know she fought the good fight.
Lloyd, you and Di have always been often in my thoughts. That's especially true at Fair time, when the subject of concrete comes up, and when we touch on a few other subjects on occasion! Other than still getting out a Christmas greeting, I just don't get anything done about it though and today I'm especially sorry for that. Please take care, know that I care, and don't hesitate to call if there is anything I can do for you. Di was so strong and sort of the glue that held everything together and kept it running smoothly. As I recall, she was also good at keeping you calmed down and under control! Shoes like hers are the kind that no one can ever fill.

HI there to Lloyd and family,
We square danced with Lloyd and Dianna in the 1960s
and have lots of memories. No words to express our
sympathy, just know that our thoughts are with you all.
Lloyd and I are on the road in our motorhome for a couple months.
Our daughter, Kalina had a bout with breast cancer in 2007 but
has recovered at this time so feel we have something in common.

To the family of Dianna,
Im so very sorry for your loss. I got to know her while working at the bookkeepers. One day she brought in a tray of goodies oh my goodness she was such the great cook, her peanut brittle reciepe was amazing its the only one I use. The toffee mmm. Every year I would contact her and say hello and explain how I misplaced my notes and she would go over the"how to's" with me without saying now dont loose it. She was so sweet with all the stuff she had going on she always asked me how my family was and wouldnt let on about her condition.

To Dianna's family...Your loved one was a 'family customer' of Raul's restaurant. She would come into the restaurant wave and sit down at the counter and say she could not get lloyd to come up tonight, so she was ordering some food to go... We would place in front of her, 'her usual'--which was chile con queso (cheese dip) a well-blended, tart margarita and she would commense telling us how she was doing, what her grandchildren were up to and about her sister, who was ill. Dianna always had a smile on her; she was a joy to have around, and she truly loved her husband, family, and life.
Dianna was truly a a special rose in many people's lives. Dianna's spirt will live on in each of her children and grandchildren. I shall keep your family in my prayers. May Dianna's family find comfort in God's promise of everlasting life in Him.
