Mary Lynn Winans
March 26, 2021
Mary Lynn Winans, 52, passed away March 26, 2021 at Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines, Iowa.
Lynn was born November 16, 1968 in Bartlesville, Oklahoma to her parents George Ashley Jones and Mary Kathryn Kingsbury Jones. Lynn was a bus driver for over 20 years, starting her career first in Oklahoma. For the past 13 years she worked in the Southeast Polk School District as not only a bus driver, but also a router and in dispatch. She enjoyed seeing the smiling faces of all of “her kids” on a daily basis while traveling her bus routes.
She was extremely creative and artistic. She loved photography, drawing and playing the piano.
Lynn was adamant we not dwell on the end of her life, but rather celebrate the life she lived. She was always there to support anyone in need and was willing to fill whatever role she needed to, whether it be mother, wife, daughter, teacher, coach, friend, or more. Whatever role needed to be filled at the time, Lynn stepped up to the plate and exceeded those expectations. She was an extremely kind and generous person, and will be remembered by those qualities to all who were blessed to have known her.
Lynn is survived by her loving husband of 32 years, Charles Winans; children, Kimberly (Jared) Miller and Michael Winans; grandchildren, Jacob and Leila Miller; mother; Kathryn Kingsbury; brothers, L. Paul Jones and Theodore H. Jones; and many loving relatives and special friends.
She was preceded in death by her father, George Ashley Jones.
Visitation will be held from 5-7pm Wednesday, March 31, 2021 at Hamilton’s Altoona Funeral Home, 105 4th Street SW in Altoona. Funeral services will be held at 11am Thursday, April 1, 2021 at Adelphi Calvary Baptist Church, 7925 SE Vandalia Drive in Runnells, Iowa. The family askes guests to join them for a luncheon after the funeral service and before heading to Iowa Veterans Cemetery where Lynn will be laid to rest at 2pm.
Memorial contributions may be directed to Taylor House in loving memory of Lynn.

Lynn and I worked side by side at SEP Transportation for several years. She was a hard worker and always helped me out of computer jams whenever I asked. I particularly enjoyed Michael when he came to wait for his mother after school. Dick and my prayers and good wishes go with Charlie, Kim , Michael and Margaret. God be with you as you grieve.

We were so privileged to know Lynn through her mother Kathryn whom we attended nursing school. Lynn would come with her mother and take our photos. She was such a delight and showed her mother so much love with her talent. So sorry for your loss. She will be missed.
