Helen R. Shay

Helen R. Shay, 92, passed away March 23, 2021, with her family by her side at Taylor House Hospice.

Helen was born September 4, 1928 in Moulton, Iowa to Homer and Diamond Ruckman. She enjoyed working at Metz Baking for many years as well as making cakes for Baskin Robbins. Helen was a homemaker most of her life and loved to sew and solve puzzle books. Above all else, she treasured time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Helen is survived by her children, Teresa Montgomery, Michael Shay and Jerry Shay; grandchildren, Brandon (Tammy) Montgomery and Patrese (Chris) Lee; great-grandchildren, Dex, Bailey, Ty, Allyson and Cam; and her siblings, Hazel Jackson, Rex Ruckman and Mary Ellen Shimerdia.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Thomas E. Shay and son, Timothy E. Shay; parents, Homer and Diamond Ruckman; and her siblings, Doris England and John Ruckman.

A memorial visitation will be held from 1 pm to 3pm on Wednesday, March 31, 2021 at Armstrong Funeral Home, 205 West Monroe Street in Mt. Ayr, Iowa followed by burial at Rose Hill Cemetery in Mt. Ayr.
