Robert Abolins

March 23, 2021

Service Details

Robert Abolins left this earth unexpectedly March 23, 2021, way too soon. He was born December 3, 1960. Bobby was born into a large Latvian family (twelve children). He was one of the nine Abolins children who were born in America. He was an animal lover, and parent to three good and funny dogs – Sydney, Henry, and Bubba. Yes, they will miss him. He enjoyed cooking and baking, and was a master who is already missed.

He went to St. Peter’s School, graduated from East High School, and attended Grandview University for three years. He lived most of his life in the Des Moines area. He also lived in Atlanta, Georgia and Minneapolis, Minnesota for a change of pace. He worked at various jobs, but the majority of his career was being a telephone customer advocate for health insurances.

Bobby is survived by two brothers, Peter and Daniel; seven sisters, Maiga, Via, Velta, Mary Ann, Ingrid (his twin), Tina, and Natalie; and his best friend, Doug. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, John and Juris, nephews, Billy and Mac, who also left us too soon. There are so many other members of our large family who too are greatly missed.

His passing wasn’t easy and he is greatly missed by all who loved him. Whether in person or by phone, Bobby didn’t just say goodbye, he chose to say, “I love you.” Yes, he is missed and remembered graciously.

There will be a graveside service at 12:00 p.m. Saturday, March 27, 2021 at Glendale Cemetery, 4909 University Ave, Des Moines.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Furry Friends Refuge, 1211 Grand Ave, West Des Moines, IA 50265.
