Ralph "Jim" James Myers, Sr.
March 20, 2021
Jim Myers, 80, passed away peacefully on March 20, 2021, at Mercy Medical Center. He was born December 18, 1940, in Des Moines, to Ralph and Opal Myers.
Jim graduated from Lincoln High School in 1958 and married his soulmate and the love of his life, Mary Stanley, on August 5, 1960. He worked for Rock Island Railroad which inspired his love and passion for trains throughout his life.
Jim was a talented craftsman and detailed woodworker, something he enjoyed up until the present. He took great pride in gifting his family and friends many treasures he created over the years.
Jim was an avid fisherman who eagerly anticipated fishing season each year. He was known to have an ornery side. Whether sharing a joke or teasing someone, he was best at making others laugh. He loved playing cards, a favorite pastime that he shared with his grandchildren. Jim also enjoyed watching all sports, but was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and Chicago Bears, as well as Dale Earnhardt and NASCAR. Above all else, Jim cherished time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Jim is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Mary Myers; sons, Bob (Heidi) Myers and Ralph “Jamie” (Vicki) Myers; daughter, Tammy (Todd) Boldt; his grandchildren, Sara (Dean) Adams, Ashley (Nate) Leetch, Paige (Matt) Myers, Jennefer (Matthew) Myers, Hailey Boldt, Kaleb Myers, Ava Boldt, and Delaney Boldt; great-grandchildren, Cameron Adams, Lily Adams, and Adelyne Say; as well as other loving relatives and many special friends.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Opal Myers, and his daughter-in-law, DeAnna Myers.
A private graveside service will be held at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery on Thursday, March 25, 2021.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the Iowa Lions Eye Bank in loving memory of Jim.
