Jeanne Hope Roland, 83, died at Bishop Drumm Retirement Center on March 16, 2021, freeing her from confusion and her broken body.
Jeanne was born February 24, 1938 in New Haven, Connecticut. She was a Registered Nurse for Armstrong Tire & Rubber Co. for many years. Jeanne was a dedicated member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, where she served as a nun for the Order of Julian of Norwich. She was also a member of the Shetland Sheepdog Club, the Des Moines Kennel Club and the Iowa Genealogical Society.
Jeannne is survived by her sister, Cheryl Banford Howland; dear friends, Ray and Deborah Thompson and was the beloved “Aunt Jeanne” to Thomas (Rita) Thompson, Samuel (Alison) Thompson, Jacob (David) Thompson, Lucas (Amanda) Thompson and Jane Thompson and their children.
She was preceded in death by her biological mother, Hope Bamford, adoptive parents, Ray and Wilma Roland; brother, James Bamford; and her beloved Shelties and Pekinese.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 10, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 3120 E. 24th Street. Jean will be laid to rest at Pine Hill Cemetery.

I hadnt seen Jeanne in many years. She was so kind to us as young students and devoted to her church. Peace be unto her spirit. Her memory is for a blessing.

I spent many hours listening to Jeannes stories at the Iowa Genealogical Society. She loved her dogs and loved her friends, especially her adopted Thompson family. She will be missed.
