Brenda Lee McCuen
Of Altoona, Iowa
Brenda McCuen, age 63, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, March 12, 2021, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. She was born the daughter of Robert and Katie (Reiter) Bunce on January 10, 1958, in Des Moines, Iowa.
Brenda worked at the Department of Transportation for 35 years and spent her last 15 years as an accountant. She was looking forward to retiring in January of 2022. Brenda enjoyed gardening and crafting; she was extremely creative and loved remodeling and decorating. She was a “Jack of all trades” and a “Miss Fix-It”. Above all else, she treasured time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Besides spending time watching her loved ones in a variety of sports and dance competitions, Brenda wore a coaching hat for many years at the softball fields. Her family has many fond memories of time spent at the racetrack, softball fields, and dance competitions.
Those who had the pleasure of sitting at her table will treasure memories of her great storytelling. She had the ability to make every person who walked through her door feel welcomed. She will forever be remembered for her hard work ethic, optimistic attitude, and strong will. Brenda always took pride in her family and taught her girls to be independent women.
Left to cherish her memory include her loving husband of 47 years, Bill McCuen; daughters, Brandie McCuen, Wendie McCuen, Lacy (Ryan) Anderson, and Kelsi McCuen; grandchildren, Alexis (Devin) Kono, John Groen, Nya, Rylee, and Saydie Burgos, Uriah and Rorie Anderson; great-grandchildren, Kasen and Brecken Kono; siblings, Karen, Diane, Grant, and Robert (Sharon), and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Brenda was preceded in death by her parents; siblings Rebecca and Patricia, and infant twin siblings, Robert and Katie, who died at birth.
Memorial contributions can be made to the McCuen family in honor of Brenda McCuen.
The family will greet friends from 5 to 8 p.m., Thursday, March 18th, 2021, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street. Funeral services will be at the same location at 1 p.m., Friday, March 19th, 2021.She will be laid to rest at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Des Moines.
