Mildred “Millie” Ann Porter

Millie passed away at her home on Friday, March 12, 2021 after a valiant fight with cancer. Cancer has the ability to take everything away from you physically but it did not have the ability to take away Millie’s drive to fight. She fought, and she fought hard. Even when it appeared the fight had been lost Millie wasn’t ready to give up. The family sends their appreciation to St. Croix Hospice for all of their support and love given to Millie at the end.
Millie was born October 21, 1952 in Des Moines, Iowa right in the middle of a family of seven kids. She graduated Saydel High School in 1970 going onto Iowa State University for undergraduate and graduating with a Master’s from Drake University. Millie spent her entire working career at Magellan Pipeline in Pleasant Hill before retiring in 2018.

Millie’s proudest accomplishment in life were her boys, Michael and Nathan. Millie spent her life encouraging all of their ideas, hobbies, and interests. She was able to spend a lot of 2020 traveling with Nathan to Colorado to visit Michael and his wife Kelsey, setting off fireworks, camping, and dirt biking. She was always ready for adventures.

Millie loved her family in general, especially her sister Helen, her favorite person. Millie spent a lot of her free time working with Helen at the Iowa State Fairgrounds, traveling to Aruba, and just doing life together. They took care of their younger sister, Nancy who had Downs Syndrome and gave her all the sister time she never wanted. Millie also spoiled her nieces and nephews, ALWAYS saying “I love you” before leaving.

She was proceeded in death by her parents Mel and Bea Little, brothers Phil and John, and sister Nancy. She is survived by her sons Michael (Kelsey) Porter and Nathan Porter. Her Sisters Helen Little, Katie (Brian) Biggs, and brother Melvin (Kathy) Little and many nieces and nephews.

There will be no memorial services held. Michael and Nathan plan to take and scatter her cremated remains in Colorado. In lieu of flowers please make memorial contributions to Mosaic of Central Iowa in honor of Mildred Porter.
