Peggy McLaughlin
March 09, 2021
Peggy Sue McLaughlin, 64, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by the love and comfort of her family on March 9, 2021. She was born in Des Moines on November 30, 1956, to Eugene and Patty Rinehart.
Peggy had a passion for fine art which led to her career as an art teacher. Whether she was drawing, painting, or crafting, she did it with great joy and excellence. Many of her art pieces adorn homes and businesses throughout Florida.
Peggy was married to the love of her life, Danny McLaughlin, for 40 years. Together, they shared so many wonderful adventures. Danny was her best friend, greatest advocate and caregiver.
Peggy and Danny wintered in Florida for many years until deciding to make St. Petersburg their home. It was during this time that she gained a love of fishing, a hobby that not even an injury or illness could keep her from. In 2018, they moved back to Iowa to be closer to their family.
One of Peggy’s greatest accomplishments was hiking the Grand Canyon at the age of 40, something she said was harder than childbirth. Over the years, she enjoyed many hobbies such as traveling, listening to music, dancing and singing. Peggy loved spending time outdoors, especially when hunting for morel mushrooms. She was never one to turn down a Melting Moments cookie or competitive game of cards or Spoons against her mother and sisters. Above all else, she cherished time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Her life of easy laughter, infinite love, and example of strength and courage under any circumstance are among the greatest gifts she leaves her family and friends. Peggy will be remembered for her beautiful smile, sassy wit, great sense of humor, and joyful spirit.
Survivors include her loving husband, Danny McLaughlin; mother, Patty Rinehart; her children, Jody (Shondra), Shannon (Josh), and Katie (Josh “Huggie”); grandchildren, Michael, Austin, Daniel, Saetia, Adrien, and Edie; her siblings, Vicki (Bob), Mark (Debbie), and Goldie (John); as well as other loving family and many special friends.
She was preceded in death by her father, Eugene W. Rinehart; two brothers, Eugene “Butch” Rinehart and baby John Rinehart; and her dear friend, Carol McDole.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 13, 2021, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave. in Des Moines, with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. Peggy will be laid to rest at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery following the service.
The family requests masks be worn and social distancing is encouraged.

Our dearest condolences to Danny and the Entire Family. We started out as neighbors, became friends, and Peggy and Danny made us feel like Family.. I've never met such a strong woman as Peggy, and yet such a soft sweet smile and the purest heart.... .I can picture that smile as Peggy's reeling in that Big Fish in the sunset. You will always be loved and Never forgotten....
