Thomas Moorehead

Thomas Moorehead, 68, passed away unexpectedly March 4, 2021 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center.

Tom was born July 15, 1952 to Donald and Doris (Polen) Moorehead in Des Moines. He served in the U.S. Army. Tom worked as a pressman at the Des Moines Register. He went on to be a carpenter for Local Union #106 before retiring.

One of his favorite things was clipping coupons and challenging local grocers! He loved sports, especially football. Tom enjoyed looking at the stars with his telescope, visiting with people and sharing stories. Above all, he lived for his family.

Tom is survived by his children, Geniveve (Shawn) Krugler and Matthew (Sandy Dent) Moorehead; six grandchildren; siblings, Debrah Damstrom, Sally (Larry) Lancaster and Machelle Moorehead Sylvara; many nieces, nephews, cousins, good friends and neighbors.

He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Donna Pratt, Sandra Cassady, David Moorehead and Cathy Moorehead; and his granddaughter, Kelsie Boyd.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, March 11, 2021 at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street. A private burial will be held at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery.
