Melva Pauline Ellis

Melva P. Ellis, 88, went to be with her Lord on Tuesday, September 22, 2009, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton from complications following a stroke. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, September 25, at Bethany Baptist Church in Des Moines with burial following at Resthaven Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Hamilton's Southtown Funeral Home.
Melva was born June 9, 1921 at her home in rural Norwalk to Elmer and Icy Boggs. She graduated from Norwalk High School in 1937 and then served her country in the U.S. Navy from 1944-1946. Melva enjoyed doing crafts and was very active in her church where she taught Sunday School for preschoolers for over 35 years. Her church and her family were most important in her life.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, John Allen Ellis; children, Sandra (Robert) Adamson, Vicki Harper, Stephen (Ann), Carol (Steven) Spragg, James (Lee), Peggy (Larry) Woods; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, 10 siblings; one daughter-in-law; and one grandson.
