Melissa Kay Dean

Melissa Kay Dean, 38, died Thursday, September 18, 2009. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 22, 2009 at Hamilton's on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway, followed by burial at Masonic Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Monday at the funeral home.
Melissa was born October 30, 1970 in Des Moines. She attended Valley High School and worked as a hairdresser until Crohn's disease prevented her from working full-time. Melissa was an animal lover and loved spending time with her children. She also enjoyed flowers, arts, crafts and fishing at Lake Okoboji with her family.
Melissa is survived by her children, Nicholas, Jacob and Julianna Dean of OH; father, Vance (Leisa) Abbott of West Des Moines; mother, Gloria (Bill) Miller and Dustin of Plano, TX; brother, Corey Abbott of OH; step-brothers, Billy Miller of WA; Jeff Miller of TX and Michael Miller of VA; step-sister, Rebecca Fulford of NC; maternal grandparents, Vey and Ruth Adrian; many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Animal Rescue League or to a trust fund established for her children at West Bank, 1601 22nd Street, West Des Moines, IA 50266.
