Phyllis Lorraine Sheldahl, 86, died Thursday, September 10, 2009, at her home.
Phyllis was born on November 5, 1922, to John and Gwendolyn Gulick and was raised in Madrid, Iowa.
On April 24, 1943 she married Robert K. Sheldahl and their marriage was blessed with three children. Over the years Phyllis worked at the Ankeny Ordnance Plant, the Popcorn Bin and retired from Target.
Phyllis's greatest passion was her family. Though her family will remember a lifetime of shared moments, the family's annual fishing trip to Canada tops the list. Phyllis loved to fish and will be remembered for her ability to prepare the most perfect fried walleye for shore lunch, using only a camp
stove set on a rock.
After retiring, Robert and Phyllis enjoyed many years of RV travel around the United States and eventually purchased a winter home in Silver Springs, Florida.
Phyllis is survived by and will be missed by her three children, Robert G. Sheldahl of Silver Springs, Florida, Linda (Steve) Davis of Ankeny and Bruce (Leesa) Sheldahl of Tampa, Florida; her grandchildren, Joshua Davis of Des Moines, Olivia (Chad) Hynnek of Ankeny, Andy (Erin) Sheldahl of Phoenix,
Arizona, Melody (CJ) Cabral of Bellingham, Washington, Nick Sheldahl of Tampa, Florida and Erika Sheldahl of St. Petersburg , Florida; twelve great-grandchildren and her beloved dog, Buddy.
She was preceded in death by her husband Robert K. Sheldahl in 1999; her parents and brother, Raymond Gulick.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, September 14, 2009 at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave, Des Moines, Iowa, with burial following at Pine Hill Cemetery. A visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
