William "Bill" G. Rothmeyer, 77, passed away Friday, September 4, 2009 at Taylor House.
Bill was born September 26, 1931, in Des Moines to George C. and Georgia Belle Rothmeyer. He was a lifelong resident of Des Moines. Bill served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was a member of the American Legion Post 731. He married his wife, Maria on December 27, 1997. Bill owned Iowa Bail Bonds and Bill Cash Bond since 1983, where he became a General Agent for American Surety. He greatly enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. Bill also loved his three bichons, Molli, Maggi and Jolie. They were his best friends. Molli passed away three days after Bill's death.
Bill is survived by his wife, Maria; children, Jay, Travis and Amy Rothmeyer, all of Des Moines; step-children, Melynda Cook of Ames, IA and Michael (Bonnie) Adams of Platte City, MO; grandchildren, J.D., Tyler, Billy and Eddy Rothmeyer, Brendon and Joshua Bolokor, Cole Rothmeyer and Patty Vandermark, all of Des Moines; step-grandchildren, Hannah Wheeler, Alex Adams, Harrison and Meg Cook; and his sister, Freida (John) Annabele of Ankeny. He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia; parents, George and Georgia Rothmeyer; brother, Edward Rothmeyer; sisters, Anna Hess and Wanda Short; step-brother, Roy Bancroft; and step-sister, Harmie Augustus.
Bill had an array of interests. In his earlier years, he was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying golfing and fishing on the Red River in Canada. He adored boating at Saylorville Lake and ventured as far from home as Costa Rica. Through the years he became an avid traveler. As he grew older, he had to slow down, his outdoor interests still a passion but only being able to view them on television. He enjoyed watching Formula One races, golf tournaments and hockey games. Bill was the grand storyteller. Not missing a detail, he loved sharing stories about catching and arresting fugitives. Being active in his business was always a true highlight of his day.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, September 25, 2009 at Hamilton's Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street. Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, September 26, 2009 at Berean Assembly of God, 5299 E. University in Pleasant Hill.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Animal Lifeline No Kill Facility.
