Betty Cooper

Betty Lee Cooper, 67, died Tuesday, September 8, 2009 at her home in Mitchellville. Betty was born on January 14, 1942 to Elza and Oma Helton in Bremerton, WA.
Betty retired from the Iowa Department of Public Health after 23 years of service. She was an active member of the Altoona Christian Church, serving the church in many ways.
Betty is survived by her husband of 41 years, Charles Cooper; children, Tammy (Michael) Pierce of Colfax, Tommy Rhodes of Des Moines, Charles Gaines Cooper Jr. of Prairie City, Mark (Candy) Cooper of Mitchellville, Pat (Debbi) Cooper of Mitchellville, Chris (Allyson) Cooper of West Des Moines, and Michael (Bree) Cooper of Mitchellville; 22 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sister, Joan (Farrell) Leonard of Arizona; brother; Cole Helton of Connecticut; beloved pet, Pepi; and a host of other family and beloved friends.
She was preceded in death by mother, Oma Lee; father, Elza Lee Helton; step-mother, Jane Helton; and granddaughter, Shiena Rhodes.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, September 11, 2009 at the Altoona Christian Church, 2890 1st Avenue South, Altoona, with burial at Mitchellville Cemetery. Family will greet friends from 5-8 p.m. Thursday at the church.
Memorial contributions may be given to ALS Iowa Chapter, Muscular Dystrophy Association, or the Altoona Christian Church.
