Florentina Perez
March 03, 2021
Florentina Perez was born April 4, 1936 to Andrea (Montelongo) and Sebastian Rivera. Flori grew up on the south side of Des Moines, with her 12 siblings. She loved her brothers and sisters so much, and fondly remembered their time together, laughing, dancing, and having fun. She graduated from Lincoln High School in 1954. She retired from Qwest Communications after 28 years and supported her husband Chico in the family restaurants through the years. She was famous for her delicious enchiladas that she sold through the years as well. Many friends and coworkers from the phone company, church, and our friends ordered them even up until recently. She also loved to gift them frequently.
Flori married the love of her life, Richard (Chico) Perez on October 26, and they enjoyed 53 years of marriage before his death in 2009. After she retired, Flori loved taking care of her husband and family. She especially loved supporting her grandchildren in their sports, dance, musicals, and other activities. She had a heart of gold, and a strong Catholic faith. She was very devoted to the Virgin Mary and was a lifetime member of St. Anthony Church in Des Moines, where she was a member of the Altar & Rosary society, CRHP, and devoted time doing things for the parish. Anyone that met her knew most of all how much she loved Jesus, and she was an extraordinary example of His love, especially to her children.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Rito Perez, Richard (Trishia) Perez, Michael Perez, Mary (Jerry Van Dam), Rose (Nick) Adams, Suzanne (Dan) Hejkal, and Chris Perez. She is also survived by her 18 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren. Sisters Rose Bonanno, Evelyn (Phillip) Munoz, Connie (Gilbert) Sanchez. Brothers Henry (Rosenda) Rivera, John (Hannah) Rivera, Andrew Rivera, and sister-in-law Judy Connor, sister-in-law Rita Perez and brother-in-law Rito (Pep) Perez, and many cherished nieces and nephews and Godchildren.
She was proceeded in her death on March 3, 2021 by her beloved husband Richard, parents Andrea and Sebastian, in-laws Rito and Mary (Ortale) Perez, sisters Elena Rivera, Lucille Garcia, Juanita Garcia, Maria (Charlotte) Gomez. Brothers Edward Rivera and Edmundo Rivera, grandson Christian Perez, brother-in-law Albert Perez and sister-in-law Rose Inman and beloved other extended family.
A funeral mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, March 8, 10:30 AM at St. Anthony Church, 15 Indianola Rd, Des Moines, IA. The family will hold a visitation from 9:30-10:30 at the church before mass. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial on Fleur Drive immediately following mass. The mass will be live streamed on the St. Anthony Church Facebook page.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the family.

We were very sorry to hear of Florie's passing. I first became acquainted with Florie and Rose while attending Lincoln Highschool and have remained friends throughout the years. Also, our son Craig attended school with Rito. Our family would like to extend our deepest sympathy to both the Rivera and Perez families.

My heart goes out to Mary, Rose, Suzanne, Rito, Richard, Mike and the rest of the Perez family. Flori was a second mother to all of her children's friends and always made visitors feel at home. I am glad the family moved into our neighborhood and I got to know them all and the decades of friendship. I know you have so many great memories of your mom and that will help to comfort you. Prayers to you all.

My 1st memory of my aunt Florie was when I was probably 4 years old when she came home in her cheerleading outfit coming in in the evening after a game The person she was now was the person she was back in those days also!
she was always loving, she was kind especially to her nieces and nephews She had a heart of gold.
I was with her and uncle Chico in one way or another since right after Rito was born Uncle Chico bought me a model car(I stayed overnite) and he help me put it together. Maybe they were practicing on me But I was pretty much in their lives after that,
couples trips to California in the summer time then Atlanta after that and here at home They are both irreplaceable They loved us all and they love us all unconditionally Theyll be there to greet us when we get to heaven. God-bless you aunt Florie Job well done!Gods kind and faithful servant !

No words on this earth can describe the love I have for Aunt Flori and all the thoughts I have of her and her life.
Aunt Flori was truly a devoted daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.
I told Aunt Flori every time I seen her that she was my Angel on earth from the moment my mother shared this testimony of her sisters devotion to Christ.
Years ago my mother share the love and devotion that her siblings have for God and the Blessed Virgin Mary.
Mom said my sister, your Aunt Flori is Holy. If you are looking for her, go to church as she in mass or saying the rosary and she includes everyone in her prayers as she loves her family.
Mom said, If you should need spiritual support or up lifting be with your Aunt Flori as she lives close, will hold your hand and wrap her arms around you. The love she has will fulfill you and your worries will wash away. Mom said; daughter I will not be with you forever, so trust in your Aunt Flori as she will hold your words to herself and pray for you.
Aunt Flori aways made me feel loved, strong and blessed in her present.
Aunt Flori never found fault in people, but instead would say something positive about that person or directly to them. How uplifting the words she would express to change your day or outlook in life.
I know that the moment Aunt Flori left this life, she was greeted in Gods loving arms and is in great joy with her family, friends and all of Gods people.
We send our love and prayers to our cousins and extended family.
May God Bless You. 🙏🏻👼🏻🕊
