Donald Taft

Donald F. Taft, 87, passed away February 28, 2021 at EveryStep Kavanagh House.
Donald was born July 9, 1933 in Sioux City, Iowa to Clarence and Lola Taft. On November 26, 1953, he married Lola Bastian. Over the years Don and Lola were co-owners of Pioneer Sound Service and Quality Sound Service. They provided sound and sold instruments and other related items at music festivals. He was also a supervisor for Qwest for many years. Don and Lola resided in Donna, Texas for many years during the winter months. In September 2004 the couple was inducted into the Old Time Music Hall of Fame.
Don is survived by his daughters, Terri (George) Storm, Karen Low and Darla (Chris) McBee; grandchildren, Ben (Stephanie) Poole, Andy (Jessica) Poole, Brandon (Angela) Foldes, Lauren (Troy) Beamer, Gary (MaKenzie) McBee, Grant McBee, Abby McBee; nine great-grandchildren; sister, Nancy Carlock; his companion, Margaret; and a host of extended family and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 51 years, Lola and his granddaughter Jillian Marie Low.
The service will be nontraditional in that friends are encouraged to dress casually. Music chosen by Don is being sung by old beloved friends and acquaintances. Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m. Saturday, March 6, 2021 at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Donald will be laid to rest at St. John’s Cemetery in Cumming, Iowa.

Condolences to the family. We first met Don & Lola at the Stratford IA Bluegrass Festival. We looked forward to seeing him at various music festivals and celebrating his birthday each year at Stratford. He was always fun to be around. He will he missed by all who knew him. Dale & Caroline

Don and I go back to his early years with Northwestern Bell in Sioux City. I have fond memories of making breakfast in the duck blind on the Missouri River. I'm so pleased that we have kept in touch all these years. My Sympathy to his family.

We knew Don from many years ago, I believe we met at the Avoca music festival. Had some great times and laughed alot we will miss him. Prayers to the family.
