William Brazelton
February 21, 2021
William “Bill” Robert Brazelton was born June 9, 1948 in Des Moines, Iowa to William Reed and Norma Jean Jeffress-Brazelton. He passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 21, 2021, surrounded by his family, at the age of 72.
Bill attended Smouse Opportunity School. He graduated from East High School in 1967 and attended DMACC and Saint Paul School of Theology. He worked as a lay pastor in the United Methodist Church, the banking industry, and Greyhound Office Center. In his retirement he enjoyed working at Walmart.
In 1969, Bill married Susan “Sue” Davis. They had two wonderful children, a daughter, Dawn and son, Steven. Aside from a few warm years in Florida, and a few cold years in Minnesota, Bill and Sue called Des Moines home. Bill enjoyed fishing, watching sports, and spending time with and watching his grandchildren play sports. He enjoyed playing cards and cribbage. He spent many hours collecting Hot Wheels and traveling to nearby states for National Hot Wheels Conventions.
Bill loved crafts and plastic canvas. He had a knitting and embroidery machine. He liked to go to his class reunion breakfasts each month. He was an Iowa Hawkeyes fan and his Hawkeye wheelchair always made for good conversation. He also loved Reba.
He is survived by his wife, Sue; his daughter, Dawn (Ted) Herselius; son, Steve (Robyn) Brazelton; grandchildren, Caleb (Monica) Wulf, Cassie Brazelton, Austin Brazelton, Nathan Burns, Jace Brazelton, Geoff (Julie) Herselius, Michael (Cianna) Herselius, and Ephraim Herselius; and 7 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Norma Brazelton and his granddaughter, Taylor Brazelton.
Visitation will be held from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. Friday, February 26, 2021 at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street, Des Moines.
The family would like to express a special thanks to Dr. Agey and the staff at MercyOne Norwalk, Kathy Roberts - RN Mercy Health Coach, his home health nurse, Amy McCleary, and the Paracentesis group at MercyOne and the nurses of MercyOne 8 South, for their dedication and compassion in caring for our husband and dad.

Dear Sue,
I am so sorry for you and your Family to hear of Bill's death. I have such fond memories visiting with Grandma Delpha and Aunt Edna. Your wedding is the first wedding I went to. I was so happy to see your wedding picture, it is the same one in my head. You were such a beautiful Bride!

Dear Sue, I am so sorry to hear of Bills death, what a great guy! I know how much you will miss him. I always loved the Hawkeye items he gave me, I just put the Hawk snowman away until next year. I hope you are doing well, I see you on Facebook sometimes. Take care, may you have comfort and peace in your life.

So sorry to hear about Bill. We grew up in the same neighborhood and was in the Boy Scouts, when they were Boy Scouts. Bills dad was our Scoutmaster and a great man in his own right with unbelievable patience with us. There was Glen Hayworth, Steve Dooley, Bill, of course and my self among others and I know we were a handful. Our meetings were at Easton Place Methodist Church. I know I am doing a lot of name dropping but I think Bill would like to know he was and is remembered as a big part of our lives. Although a few years older than Bill I will never forget the impact he had on my life back in the day. Its been a few years now but Bill came to my brothers funeral and came up to me to visit like our past was yesterday! Remember the past and cherish your memories. I will of Bill.
