Bob Hein, 65, passed away Saturday, September 5, 2009 at Iowa Methodist Hospital. Per Bob's wishes he has been cremated and will be scattered in the Gulf of Mexico off of Ft. Myers Beach.
Bob was born May 4, 1944 in Ottumwa, Iowa the son of George and Hazel (Parker) Hein.
Bob graduated from Ottumwa High School in 1962. After high school, Bob joined the United States Navy. Bob married Sandy Stage in 1968 in Sterling, Illinois. Bob graduated from Western Illinois University with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1973. He then completed his Masters in Education from Northern Illinois University. Bob taught science, physics, mathematics and computers at Forreston High School in Forreston, IL from 1973 to 2000. He also taught math at Highland Community College in Freeport, IL from 2000-2005. Bob was one of the original owners of RGB Computers in Freeport, IL.
Bob enjoyed photography, computers, building and launching high powered rockets, boating and playing with his two granddaughters.
He is survived be his wife, Sandy; daughter, Christina (Brandon) Keener; granddaughters, Addison Lilly and Campbell Lucille Keener; sister, Elizabeth (Richard) Roush; brother, John (Kathy) Hein; brother in law, Edward (Melinda) Stage.
Bob was preceded by his parents and sister, Lavinia Porter.
In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established for the Krape Park carrousel in Freeport. Contributions may be sent to Sandy at 1725 S. 50th Street #404, West Des Moines, Iowa 50265.

Sorry to hear about My Heins passing. He was my favorite teacher in high school and I was lucky to have him Freshman-Junior. Wish I had him my senior year as well and was disappointed he didn't teach that year.
He as a great guy/teacher and of the main reasons I am where I am now. This country needs more dedicated teachers like him.
RIP Mr Hein...you will be missed.

We are so sorry for your loss. He left us too soon but it seems he really embrassed life in several fulfilling ways. And know that he is still with you and still watching over the wife, daughter, and granddaughters he loved so here on earth.

My sincere condolences go out to your family. Mr. Hein was my teacher at Forreston. He always had a way of trying to make learning interesting and fun. My prayers are with your family.

Mr. Hein was one of the finest men I have ever had the honor of meeting. He was my teacher at FHS from 1991 until I graduated in 1995. He was more than just a teacher, he was a friend and confidant. I could go to him and talk to him about no matter what. He will forever be in the hearts of those he touched and will forever be remembered.
The quote "To teach is to touch a life forever." is very fitting when it comes to Mr. Hein. He truly touched all of our lives. RIP Mr. Hein, may you fly with the angels!

Dear Sandy and Christina,
How very sad I am to know that Bob is no longer with us. I let the faculty at Highland know as well as Dan and Nancy Aho, who have moved to Elburn, IL. I foolishly didn't get your address and/or your phone number from you but did think to find the obituary online. It hasn't yet appeared in the Freeport paper. What a sweet idea to have the memorials go to the carrousel.
I have missed him since he stopped e-mailing and feel bad that I didn't follow up with phone calls which at least would have let him know I was thinking of him.
He was a good and much-loved teacher. The student assistants in the math lab had such great fun with him and respect for him even though he often teased them or maybe because he did.
He always understood the job I was doing and helped when he could. I remember several times he came in and helped the secretary and me with entering student names for the computer math lab. He was always concerned about my husband's health and cheered me up when I was down. I have missed him and will continue to miss him.
