The Life of Jaqueline Mae Doyle Collier
Jacqueline Mae (Jackie) Doyle Collier, daughter of William W. Doyle and Elsa D. (Henry) Doyle was born in Des Moines, IA on December 9, 1937. She has been a Des Moines resident all her life.
Jackie was educated in the Des Moines Independent School system graduating from East High School in 1956. She furthered her education at Des Moines Technical High School, taking data entry classes at night.
At an early age Jackie joined and was baptized at East 17th St. Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Elder Henry Ford. She later joined Union Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Henry I. Thomas. She later fellowshipped at King of Kings Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Jordan P. Rabon.
Jackie worked at Iowa Methodist Hospital and Midwest Mutual Insurance Company before joining Blue Cross/Blue Shield where she worked for 26 years before retiring June 28, 1996.
Jackie was a member of the Des Moines Interfaith Volunteer Caregivers Program (DMIVCP), Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) and Senior Companion Program. As a volunteer of DMIVCP and Senior Companion Program, Jackie gave senior citizens rides to the doctor and dentist offices, banks, grocery stores, to pay bills, and other needed errands or just visited those unable to get out. She also volunteered at Union Park Care Center helping the residents play bingo and giving out the money prizes. Once a month she donated food to Elder Eddie Davis’ Community Center food pantry in West Des Moines. She also donated food to Faith Missionary Baptist Church’s food pantry. She felt she had been blessed by the Lord and needed to give something back. January 2012 Jackie started working as a care giver with Home Instead and did some of the same things she did as a volunteer but added on some others such as house cleaning and laundry. She also went to Central Senior Center on Wednesdays to call Bingo.
Jackie was united in marriage to Eddie D. Collier in September 1956 and from that union two daughters were born, Denise Renee’ Collier and Sonya Jean Collier.
Jackie loved shopping, church, gospel music and gospel DVD’s, especially The Rance Allen Group. She loved working jigsaw and word search puzzles, collecting miniature brass clocks, and helping others. She sent cards to the sick and shut-in once a month to let them know they were not forgotten and delivered treats to them during the holidays. Jackie continued to send cards, balloons and well wishes until her declining health would no longer allow for it.
The Lord called her home on February 18, 2021 at the age of 83. Preceding her in death were her mother and father, Elsa D. Doyle and William W. Doyle; her brothers, Ernest R. Reid, Jr. and William D. Doyle; her Grandparents Mary Belle and Peter Doyle and Lillie and George Henry; a cousin, who was like a sister, Una Mae Perchman Harris.
Jackie leaves to cherish her memories: two daughters, Denise R. Collier and Sonya J. Collier both of Des Moines, IA; seven grandchildren, Lonnie S. Porter, Lonise B. Porter, Renise D. Collier, and Benise L. Collier all of Des Moines, IA; Ryan J. Drayton of Marietta, GA, Trenise J. Collier of Denver, CO, and Jenise T. Collier of Waukegan, IL.; eighteen great grandchildren; Godchildren Shanelle and Truanna Harris, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.
Per her wishes, cremation has occurred and there will be no services held at this time. If you should so choose, a contribution in Jackie’s name would be appreciated to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

I miss you Nana, going to your house and it was full of snacks, asking you a billion of questions and you had an answer to all of them. Every time you asked me do you like your navy and I reply yes and you would say Im glad you found something you like. I miss the dance breaks you do in the car as we chant Go Nana. I miss how much you showed how much we deserve as Women and never to settle for anything less. I miss the court shows we would watch and we would commentate on what we would of said I miss your jello and crescents on thanks giving and the amazing spaghetti! I miss going over your house after church reciting our Easter/Christmas speech and you being our biggest fan. I miss how you would say Im not going to the hospital so settle down but we all knew you were the first one at the hospital when we were getting stitches. I miss the bendy straws in can sodas. I miss the candy in your purse. I miss the jogging suits that I tried to match you with. I will miss the snacks and cards you would send my whole division on deployment and we had to tell you to stop sending so many snacks because we are running out of room lol. What I miss the most is you would always say Im too blessed to be stressed I will always miss you. I love you!
