Jill Marie (Mead) of Ottumwa, Iowa, died Wednesday, February 17, 2021, at Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa. She was 52 years old.

Jill was born on April 23, 1968, in Sioux Falls, S. Dakota. She was adopted by Barry and Marilyn (Fogleman) Mead on September 13, 1968. She was raised with three brothers, Scott, Bryce and Derek.

Jill had one son, Zachary Adam Mead-Ostrander. She was married to Tony Cataldo but later divorced.

Jill continued her education after graduating from Waverly-Shell Rock High School in Waverly, Iowa, achieving degrees in Fashion Merchandising, Cosmetology and a CMA (Certified Medical Assistant). She enjoyed most the privilege of helping people when employed as a CMA at Broadlawns Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa. She was involved with NAMI (National Alliance for Mental Illness) because of her own struggle with bipolar.

Jill was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Roger and Evelyn Mead; her maternal grandparents, Lowell (Butch) and Esther Fogleman, all of Correctionville, Iowa; and her birth father, Ronald Owen of Sisseton, S. Dakota.

Jill is survived by her son, Zachary of Ottumwa, Iowa; her parents, Barry and Marilyn Mead of Unionville, Missouri; her brother, Scott Mead and nephews, Mitch and Ethan of Polk City, Iowa; her brother, Bryce Mead and his wife, Julie, and their children Miranda and Devin, all of Plymouth, Minnesota; her brother, Derek Mead of Brooklyn, Iowa. She is also survived by members of her birth family - mother, Beverly Greely; sisters, Johna Martin of Lander, WY, Tara Greely and Toni Heminger of Sisseton, S. Dakota; brothers, Reno and Troy Greely, of Sisseton, S. Dakota; as well as her birth father’s family – sisters, Stacey Wegleitner, Dawn Skenadore, and Cori Owen of Sisseton, S. Dakota.

Jill was a Sioux Indian and proud of her heritage. She was cremated and her remains will be taken back to the reservation in S. Dakota for a Celebration of Life service sometime this summer.
