Margaret "Peg" Kottke
February 16, 2021
Margaret “Peg” Kottke, 82, was born on April 28, 1938, in Swift County, Minnesota, the daughter of Melvin and Frances (Fernholz) Collins. Peg passed away peacefully in Ankeny, Iowa on February 16, 2021.
Peg was an incredible cook that loved feeding her family, friends, and neighbors. Her homemade rolls and bread were always favorites. Even Peg’s volunteer work centered around food. She cooked and served funeral dinners at the many parishes she was a member of during her lifetime. She donated several baked items for the youth bake sales at All Saints and contributed numerous recipes to multiple church cookbooks over the years. She was thrilled to host a dinner for the Bishop in her home while living in Plano, Texas. Peg was extremely creative; she enjoyed doing crafts with her five children and sewed much of their clothing, including Halloween costumes and even swimsuits. She taught her granddaughters to crochet and knit.
Peg is survived by her children, Pamela Kottke, Scott (Karen) Kottke, Stephanie Griffin, Valerie Kottke-Cole, and Brett Kottke; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sisters, Evelyn Commerford and Gert (Tom) Bouta; other loving relatives and many friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Glenn; granddaughter, Shannon Kottke; brothers, Dick and Ray Collins; her sister Mary Kavanagh; and her sons-in-law, Chuck Cole and Dennis Griffin.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, February 24, 2021 at All Saints Catholic Church, 650 NE 52nd Ave, Des Moines. Family will greet friends from 5-7 p.m., Tuesday, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave., Des Moines. Burial will follow at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. The family respectfully requests all guests wear masks.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.

I was so saddened to hear of your Mother's passing. She was such a great person. I really enjoyed working on our All Saints cookbook with her and seeing her at 4 pm Mass until this last year. She will be greatly missed. Marty Swigart

Stephanie and Val & Family
Your mother was a wonderful lady!
A loyal and faithful member of All Saints when I was there! She was so generous with her wonderful baked goods and her time and talents were given to so many activities in the parish.
My prayers and sympathy go out to you and all of Peg's family.
Love,
Mary Ann
