Brenda Kromrie

Brenda Lois Kromrie, 64, passed away February 12, 2021 at Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines. Brenda was born on February 27, 1956 in Kansas City, MO to Gerrold and Nancy Brookens. She grew up in Des Moines, IA and later moved to Adair, IA after her mother’s remarriage to Gene Bireline.

Soon after graduating from Adair-Casey High School, Brenda met Duane Kromrie of Casey, IA. They married in 1976 and later moved from the farm to Greenfield, IA where they raised three children, Brent, Brad and DeEtta. Brenda worked at the local nursing home, the Greenfield Manor, where she held a variety of positions over a number of years. Brenda moved back to Des Moines a few years after the passing of her husband in 2001 and continued working in the social services field until 2019.

Brenda dedicated her life to her three kids instilling values of faith, family, and education. She worked diligently to ensure that her kids would have a better life. Brenda was also a loving grandmother who loved talking to and FaceTimeing her granddaughter, Edith and her parents, Brent and Samantha Kromrie of Washington, IA.

Brenda will be remembered for being eternally optimistic and positive. She loved to laugh, play, joke around, travel, listen to music, and dance. She loved driving fast while listening to loud music, especially Bon Jovi. Brenda loved telling stories, especially about her grandfather, Ben Fisher. Her family was proud of her various acting roles as a member of the Cumberland Rose Players, a local Greenfield organization, that performed plays for the community.

Brenda was preceded in death by her parents, Nancy and Gene Bireline; and her husband, Duane Kromrie. She is survived by her siblings, Lamar Gable, Marlene Delk, and Cheryl Wright; her son, Brent (Samantha) Kromrie and granddaughter, Edith Kromrie; son, Brad Kromrie; daughter, DeEtta Cole; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Friday, February 19, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines, IA. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Casey, IA.
