William Frank "Bill" Barry 81, died Saturday, September 05, 2009 at Calvin Community.
Funeral Service will be held 1 p.m., Friday, September 11, 2009, at Hamilton's Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street. Burial of cremated remains with military rites will be Saturday, September 12, 2009, at St. Francis Xavier Cemetery in Dyersville, Iowa.
Bill was born July 26, 1928 in Dyersville, Iowa, the son of Walter and Madeline (Cooney) Barry. After graduating from high school, Bill attended the University of Iowa and graduated in 1951 with a Pharmaceutical degree.
Bill was a Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War. Corporal Barry was a member of a provisional battalion of marines from Camp Pendleton. He was hand picked to take part in the first all marine atomic maneuver in history. The exercise included training in operations employing the use of atomic weapons, the handling and use of equipment exposed to an atomic explosion, and the newest development in physical protection.
Bill is survived by his sister, Ann Scherrmann of Cedar Rapids, IA; sons, John and Dr. William Barry; four grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded by his parents.
The family would like to thank the staff of Calvin Community for their dedicated care for Bill the last four years.
