Diana Lynn Gamble
February 06, 2021
Diana Lynn (Hermann) Gamble, of Des Moines, Iowa, passed away suddenly, yet peacefully, surrounded by her family at approximately 12:50 PM on Saturday, February 6, 2021 at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa.
Diana was born on January 25, 1950 to Fred Hermann and Lois Hornback. Most people knew her as Lynn and others knew her as Diane. She married Dan Gamble, her high school sweetheart, on February 7, 1969. Together, they raised their 3 girls (along with many animals) in Saylorville where they have lived for the last 52 years.
She was known for her sharp wit (and even sharper tongue). You always had an educational and interesting conversation when talking with Diane, as she was an extremely intelligent, upfront, honest, strong, opinionated, and independent woman. You knew where you stood with her and she was always genuine.
A person of many qualities, including a green thumb, Diane was a master designer and an excellent debater. She loved travel (especially to New Orleans), art, music, trivia, food— and her greatest love of all, animals. Diane loved all animals; she even had a pet raccoon at one time.
Surviving are her husband of 52 years, Dan Gamble; daughters Tracy (John) Ripperger; Katherine Bowersox; Kristin (Jim) Wilbanks; grandson Patrick Gamble Wilbanks; sisters Terry Hermann Pelletier and Sandi Hermann-Allen; countless cousins, nieces, and nephews; and her faithful dog, Stella.
Diane was preceded in death by her grandparents, parents (Fred Hermann and Lois Hornback), brother (Mike MacDonald), and many of her loving dogs.
The family would like to thank the Saylor EMTs and Mercy Hospital in Des Moines (Floors 8 and 9) for their excellent care.
In lieu of flowers, we ask that any memorial donations be directed to Heinz 57, Animal Rescue League (ARL), or any other animal rescue leagues.

I was lucky to work with Diane at the Johnston Hy-Vee. She was a very talented designer, a great teacher, and the very best storyteller! I looked forward to our Wednesday shifts together...I appreciated her spunk and honesty and she sure could make me laugh. Her love and pride for her family always shone through in her stories.
I am so very sorry for your family's loss. I am grateful to have known Diane and will always hold her in my heart.
